I Haz a New Avatar

I Haz a New Avatar! And here is the big picture I cropped it from ~

Doesn't it make me look like I have my face in lights on Times Square? In my dreams, ha ha - but it's always nice to have something to dream about. I got this image through surfing around on the Web one day, and coming across a cool site called http://www.photofunia.com/. You can paste your picture into a variety of backgrounds, so it looks like you're on a billboard, in an art gallery, or more. You can even put yourself into a Harry Potter story ~

(Sometimes I do feel like a lost wizard, and if anybody sees me, please let me know :-) My cat LuvLee even got into the act! Here she is in super-sized format ~

There you have it, dear readers ~ another way to have fun, create a new avatar, and spend more (not quite wasted) time on the Interwebs. Speaking of which, my absolute favorite time-blowing site is the cheezburger site. LuvLee often joins me when I'm surfing that site. Before I sign off this post, I should show you that occasionally the tables get turned. This is LuvLee and me, being watched by a couple of genuine LOLCats ~

That's all for now, folks ~ Bye!

Notable Quote: The Love of a Cat

"People may surprise you with unexpected kindness. Dogs have a depth of loyalty that often we seem unworthy of. But the love of a cat is a blessing, a privilege in this world."

Start with the Rose: CycleCast for now through May 1, 2009

It's time for a new CycleCast, fellow-travelers! The Spring Equinox will be here before we know it - 5:44am on Friday, March 20 (Mountain time) to be precise. As I promised when I set out this year's schedule for CycleCasts, Spring Equinox to Beltane (May 1) is the next span for forecasting. So here we are!
This reading is framed in a relationship mode - the relationship, apparently, between Us and the Universe. Our big challenge is to get back into harmony - and it's easier than we think. We've created our own challenges mainly by trying too hard! Let's look at what the cards say:

We bring the energy of the Wand to this relationship: actualize! potentialize! manifest! screams our being. Instead, the Universe gently chuckles - well, no the Universe is Laughing behind our back - because we think we have to do it all through our effort. That's energy we don't need to be spending.

Didn't we already learn the lesson of the Rose before this cycle started? Hello, all you perfectionists out there: Let it bloom on its own! You can prepare the ground and plant, but if you try to force the Rose to flower, all you'll have is a pile of wiled petals. Maybe the Thunder of the recent past knocked us off our path? All that raw power can turn a traveler's head; better to quietly observe and know that while our perfect place in the Universe may be smaller than we think, it is far more comfortable.

Now it's time to wield the Knife of discernment and cut away what doesn't suit us. Ties that bind, perhaps? Let the light of Independence shine around you, helping you to detach with love. Use the Ice to cool your passions and see clearly. Never fear, ahead we're promised the Sun - warm yourself with optimism, and know that your radiance will shine brightly once again.

Major themes for this cycle involve comparing self to surroundings. Tread carefully here, travelers: Yes, we need information and inquiry, but watch out for excessive judgement. As the wise one once said, Don't compare your insides to someone else's outsides.

In the timeline for this reading, much of the rest of March will be focused on resources and balancing needs versus wants. The last days of this month see us going into an analytical mode, so use those mental skills for solving real problems. Lessons of power and the need for give and take come during the second week of April.

The energy of this reading peaks around April 17 to 19, when we suddenly feel free of our limitations and able to reach for our highest hopes. Decisions will be easier to make, and we'll have a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel. And then, it's back to practical concerns as we ride out the rest of April and head into the merry month of May.

The next CycleCast will be posted around the first of May. Don't forget to come back at the start of April for my Energy of the Month reading. In between, be sure to catch my various writings, musings, and observations along the Way!

Note to Self: Never Give Up - on selling arts & crafts

Omigosh, dear readers and fellow-travelers, I have been having the hardest time writing this post! All I want to do is let you know that I've had some of my stuff featured on both the Etsy and RedBubble sites recently - w00t, ta-rah, yay me! - and yet there are all these sniping little voices in the back of my head that don't want to me do it :( These nasty little voices will actually be the subject of this post (because, guess what, we all have them), but let me start with the Good News: My picture Abstract Sunset is currently being featured on RedBubble!

Last week, another RedBubble picture was featured - LuvLee's Window. And, my StarGate readings were featured in an Etsy Treasury!
So what are these features and why are they such a big deal? One of the reasons we try to sell on big sites (and both Etsy and RedBubble are big sites) is because the big sites get the traffic. My Etsy site gets 5 times as many visitors per day and my little ol' blog (but that's okay, I love my blog visitors too :-). The downside of the big sites, though, it that you can get lost in them. To counteract this, the site managers kindly provide ways for the users to feature other users in various showcases - which gives us all more exposure and visibility.
That's why being featured is a big deal. Plus, it means that someone actually liked my stuff well enough to put it in a feature (or treasury). After all, the good people who do such things don't get paid for it.
So whoopeeee - I've been featured - somebody actually likes my stuff! And not only that, I've had string of sales from Etsy over the last several weeks (may it continue) - that's the real proof of the art pudding, so to speak.
Now to let the nasty voices - also known as the Itty Bitty Sh1tty Committee - have their say: Isn't trying to make money selling artwork a waste of time? Shouldn't you get a real job? You've never had art training - what makes you think you can do it? And why are you bragging about yourself in your blog? Nobody wants to read about your features. And isn't having a blog a self-indulgent waste of time, anyway? And furthermore... And so on... And blah and blah and quack quack...
Chatter on, little voices. I'm not listening to you. I've been battling you ever since I started this venture (actually my whole working life, since I've never had job that fit snugly in the mainstream), and I've gotten real good at ignoring you.
The truth is: People like my stuff well enough to feature it. People like it well enough to buy it. And people who buy it tell me how much they like it, and some even come back again for more. And may all of that continue!
So there. I'm doing it: I'm making art and crafts, and I'm selling it online. Yes, I can!

Get Together ~ The Youngbloods - Notable Quote with video

This song has been running through my head all week, after I spent an evening nostalgically surfing through YouTube for old 60s songs. It's by The Youngbloods, one of my favorite groups from back in the day - the day being late 60s ~ San Francisco/Berkeley ~ Peace, Love, and Stop the War.

Enjoy ~

Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
right now ... right now ... right now

I Redecorated My Blog!!!!

No, fellow-travelers, you didn't accidentally log into the wrong page. It's the same Jan's CycleCast Blog you've been reading for over a year now, but with a new color scheme!

With spring coming, and keeping my blog for over a year, I decided it was time for a new look. I mean, I just decided - there was no malice aforethought or any other kind of planning in this venture. I vaguely remembered seeing a "change template" tab in one of Blogspot's layout pages, and it tickled at the back of my brain until I finally decided to give it a go. It was that easy - click the tab, take a test run of my new look, and voila! Vive le difference!

So I hope you like this refreshing blue as a change of pace. Hey, why don't you leave a comment or click a response box, and let me know what you think?

Now, if only rearranging my living room were that easy ...

My Comment on: CNBC Jon Stewart Response: "Bizarrely Obsessed" With Santelli

.
Open Letter to Mr. Santelli: I understand your need to snicker at the thought of helping your "loser" neighbors avoid foreclosure. I mean, even though your neighbor babysat your kids, lent you their lawn mower, and looked after your house when you were away, if they were losers enough to face foreclosure then they made their own bed and they should lie in it, right?

But what I want to know is, When the value of YOUR house tanks after your neighbor's house is foreclosed, will you still be snickering????

The Wanderer: Energy of the Month for March 2009

Feeling restless, fellow-traveler? Maybe a little dissatisfied or driven? It's in the cards, dear reader, because the energy for the month of March 2009 is The Wanderer ~

This is the energy of the seeker, and I know it well - I am one, and so are most of the people whom I work with as clients. Don't worry too much about the restless, dissatisfied, driven part - it's what motivates you to express the energy. How much seeking are you going to do when you're comfortable?

The nearest neighbors of this energy on the Star+Gate pattern also influence the energy "flavor" the month. The Wanderer's nearest neighbors are:

The Star of Impulse ~ just do it; it's all about gaining the experience.

The Sand ~ everything is subject to change this month, so stay light on your feet and be ready to go for it when the serve comes to you.

The Eye ~ it's really a gift to be able to see clearly and perceive other realities. Keep your mind's eye open this month!

The Cup ~ for some it's the Grail, but others see it as half-full. How will you play the hand you're dealt this month? You can resist (which just makes things persist), or you can embrace what comes and turn it into your bounty.

Those are the direct-path nearest neighbors, but there are a couple others we need to be aware of. The Lover and the Root are adjacent to our friend the Wanderer, but lie on crossing lines - which can trip you up. You may be tempted to stay put and hold on with all the lover's possessiveness, but this month it's better to let your spirit wander freely. The metaphorical Lover will wait for you, and you can always put down Roots when the cycle ends and you return safely home.

Like all archetypes, the Wanderer has different levels of expression. There is the restlessness and dissatisfaction noted above, which marks the basic impetus for seeking. Then, when we finally start moving, we may feel overwhelmed at the pathlessness ahead. Where am I going, and why am I in this handbasket? But it's also possible to wander with faith and purpose - and that is why I look to Peace Pilgrim for a model of the highest expression of the Wanderer archetype. If you've never read or studied Peace Pilgrim's teachings, go to http://www.peacepilgrim.org/ to learn more. You're in for a real treat!
